The food site Chowhound just published a story talking about when you should tip and when you shouldn’t. The article explains how wages are earned at these places and goes into detail about the mechanics of it.
For our Eagle Morning Zoo listeners, we have a couple questions:
1) Should you tip or feel obligated to tip at a fast-food restaurant? Do you feel guilty when you don’t?
2) When ordering take out from a restaurant should you also have to pay a tip? You didn’t get waited on, and you had to drive there yourself.
It feels like the tipping culture is out of control in the United States, but there’s no real set public norm on when it’s appropriate and when it’s not.
At the Zoo we believe that if you sit down and get waited on for an entire meal, you should tip liberally. 20% is the norm now and even 25% is not out of the question.
What do you think?
